Plant rutabaga seed outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked. Plant in rows 2 feet apart, spacing rutabaga seed 1 inch in the row. Cover seed with 1/2 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until rutabaga seeds start to grow. Good results are obtained by planting Rutabaga as late as the first of August.
When rutabaga plants are 1 to 2 inches tall, thin to 10 to 12 inches apart in the row.
